The former CEO of the Mangaung power utilit, Centlec has been shot and killed outside his tavern in Bergman, Bloemfontein.
The incident took place on Friday (16/2) at about 20:25, said Free State police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli. The deceased was talking with a friend outside a tavern in Bergman when an unknown African male pulled out a firearm and shot him while passing.
Bloemspruit police were called to the scene and informed that the suspect fled in a white Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Kareli said emergency personnel were called to the scene and the victim was certified dead from gunshot wounds to his heart and body.
Centlec spokesperson Lele Mamatu confirmed the deceased is former CEO Andries Mgoqi. He described the incident as “very sad”. He sent condolences to the family of the deceased.
Police have launched a search but no arrests have been made. Kareli said police are investigating a murder case and called on the public to help with information which may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
In 2022, a Centlec employee David Khanda (50) was shot and killed at his home in Cuban Street, Pine Heaven, after he parked his vehicle in the garage. No arrests have been made is his murder either.
