People have been wishing for a better change for the last 29 years. Everyone believed that when the African National Congress (ANC) took office, things would improve for South Africans. Better service delivery was something we all expected, but nothing seems to be happening since then. Our schools are underdeveloped, public institution service is subpar, and our roads still have potholes in them. People still struggle in some areas to go from point A to point B; they have to hike through dense vegetation or cross large rivers.
(Eastern cape)
Speaking of roads, there is a viral video on social media that depicts students from the Eastern Cape fording choppy rivers in order to get to class that is making people furious. Schools in South Africa resumed for the 2024 academic year Wednesday; sadly, the majority of the nation is experiencing excessive rainfall, which has caused rivers to overflow. The strong water nearly carried one of the children away.
The information gleaned from Twitter comments indicates that the quality of services provided to the residents of this community is really low. They claim that the ANC-affiliated counsellor has been making promises to construct a bridge for years, and that children are constantly exposed to this at school. Considering that the ANC won several provinces, including the Eastern Cape, how is it possible that they are not creating a bridge for their supporters? View some Twitter responses below:
Social media users were so incensed over this that some even said it was an advantage of supporting the ANC. Residents of the Eastern Cape are being advised not to vote for the ANC because it isn’t providing quality pub services. This breaks my heart so much. It’s said that education is unpaid. Does free education mean this? navigating swift-moving rivers to get to school? It is accurate to say that the ANC administration doesn’t value its constituents.
