The two “killers” who killed an ambulance taxi driver who was rushed to hospital in Mtubatuba on Tuesday afternoon showed brutality and terrifying courage.
According to sources, two taxi drivers were injured, including Msawenkosi Khumalo (61), who was shot and taken to hospital when the gunmen attacked the Umutubatuba Long Distance Taxi Association stand.
It is understood that Mr Khumalo, who has been a taxi driver for more than 25 years, was taken to Kwahlabisa Hospital while his colleague was taken to another hospital.
iLANGA spoke to sources who revealed that somewhere in Matibini an ambulance passed by and his silver-gray VW Polo passed by.
People inside the car appeared through the window, pointed guns at the ambulance driver and yelled for him to stop.
They then shot the dead.
“The driver and a health department official sitting in the back seat got out of the car and fled,” the source said.
A source told reporters there was some turmoil within the club over the route to Johannesburg and it was unclear whether the incident was still connected to the club.
KwaZulu-Natal South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) spokesperson Mduduzi Makuhunga said they had received a report on the incident and were still awaiting full details from the association’s leadership regarding the incident
He said: “There was some unrest at the club in the middle of the year, but it subsided and order was restored to the point that Santaco sent in security forces to restore stability and peace
” Nothing has happened since then and no one has been arrested
