Kaizer Chiefs Thinking About Keeping Cavin Johnson as Interim Coach While Looking for a New Coach

In a surprising turn of events, Kaizer Chiefs, one of South Africa’s premier football clubs, appears to be reconsidering the urgency of appointing a permanent coach. The spotlight is on interim coach Cavin Johnson, who, since stepping in on a caretaker basis after Molefi Ntseki’s departure, has shown promising results.

Johnson, 65, has successfully guided the team through four matches, securing two victories and enduring two losses. His impact goes beyond the scoreboard, as he has implemented a noticeable shift in the team’s playing style. Emphasizing a return to the club’s roots of attractive possession football, Johnson aims to provide players with the freedom to express themselves on the field.

Despite persistent speculation linking Kaizer Chiefs to foreign coaches, Chairman Dr. Kaizer Motaung revealed that there have been no significant developments in the engagement process. Speaking on SportsLive with BBK, Motaung mentioned, “There are no coaches available at the moment, but there are a few that are there.” He further clarified that discussions with potential coaches for a permanent position have not been initiated.

Motaung assured fans that the club is undergoing a thorough process to identify the right candidate, stating, “We haven’t embarked on talking to anybody at the moment, but we have put a process in place for us to deal with the new coach that we want to bring.” The timing of the announcement remains uncertain, with Motaung insisting that any new coach must have pre-season training when the time is right.

This development suggests that Cavin Johnson could have an extended audition until the end of the current campaign if the Kaizer Chiefs aim to appoint a new coach for the upcoming season. The club appears determined to avoid hasty decisions, opting for a thoughtful selection process.

Behind the scenes, there are indications of assembling a new technical team. Reports suggest the potential addition of former Moroka Swallows performance analyst Yusha Said, who previously collaborated with Johnson at Al Ahly. While Said’s appointment is yet to be officially confirmed, it adds an element of anticipation to the Kaizer Chiefs’ coaching dynamics.

As the situation unfolds, Kaizer Chiefs supporters will be eagerly awaiting further developments, pondering whether Cavin Johnson’s impressive interim stint could lead to an extended tenure at the helm of the Glamour Boys.
