Makgotso M. was born in the Johannesburg suburb of Alberton. She went to Albertview Primary School until she was eleven years old. She then moved to the United Kingdom.
Makgotso lived in Brighton for his first six months in England. She went to performing arts clubs there, where she was able to express her passion for the arts, notably drama and dance.
Makgotso also took part in other school productions, where he won an award for best performer. Brunel University awarded her a BA with honors in Theatre Studies, Film, and Television.
She was then accepted into the prestigious National Youth Theatre, where she completed a program that culminated in a final performance at the National Theatre.
Makgotso chose to return to South Africa to pursue her acting career seven months after graduating. Her prior appearances include a recurring role as a guest star in the South African sitcom My Perfect Family.
Terry Pheto produced the 2015 film Ayanda, in which he starred. Makgotso completed a lead role in the 2016 NFVF slate of female filmmakers. She portrays Zara, a prostitute who won a landmark case, in the TV series Sokhulu & Partners.
She recently wrapped production on an episode of The Sober Companion on SABC 3. Makgotso now features on SABC in two of the country’s most popular soap operas, Muvhango and Isidingo.
She is now starring as Thishiwe in the second season of Preparation for Isthunzi, a show about the lives of African women.
