Rumours surfaced last night, that Bartlett was said to have declined the possibility to resign after the team’s pathetic seventh loss on the bounce against Cape Town City on Saturday.
It was understood that he did want to forgo the possibility to earn his salary for six months in a scenario where he is sacked.
The Bafana Bafana legend has been at the helm since 2021 and was instrumental in helping the club to gain automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership in 2023.
However, a poor investment in the squad has not quite helped the team to settle in the PSL, with just four goals to show in their seven matches, and Bartlett himself recently bemoaned the fact that his squad was poor.
In the meanwhile, Spurs appointed Sean Connor as the club’s technical director with immediate effect two days ago, and it was always believed he was likely to going to take over eventually if Bartlett was fired.
Connor’s job won’t be easier in any way, he inherits a group of players who some have already condemned as relegation candidates.
They are just about seven points from safety and you could argue they still have an outside chance, especially if they can buy good players in January.
On Bartlett, his sacking exposes a lot of issues affecting South African football.
