A traffic cop from Rustenburg who misplaced his service weapon while intoxicated and claimed it was stolen will be prosecuted for lying.

Let me first define a perjury accusation before I continue.

The deliberate act of taking a false oath or fabricating an affirmation to speak the truth—whether verbally or in writing—about things relevant to a formal action is known as perjury (also known as foreswearing). Perjury is actually a criminal offense.

In October 2022, it was reported that Rustenburg traffic officer Phalaetsile misplaced his gun while drinking and under the influence of alcohol and claimed it was stolen. He was advised by Superintendent Khule, according to trustworthy sources, to go and report the event to the Tlhabane Police Station. It was successful in starting the case. Later, it was discovered that Phalaetsile had misled the police, declaring an armed robbery to the SAPS on October 3, 2022, despite having reported a lost firearm to the municipality on October 1, 2022. Perjury was brought up again in the case. To date, Phalaetsile has not been charged.

According to the NW police spokeswoman, the Rustenburg Police are looking into a case of perjury against a 36-year-old traffic cop who allegedly claimed that his gun was lost in October 2022. Initial investigations revealed that the data he allegedly provided in January was false.

He claimed to have participated in an armed robbery when the weapon was taken. The inquiry is still ongoing; therefore, the traffic cop will soon appear in court.
