The woman who hit news headlines after she allegedly hired hitmen to kill her former husband is set to remain in prison.

Business woman Ethel Mphahla-Noqekwa had earlier appeared in court charged with murder.

She stands accused of hiring hitmen to kill her former husband Dr Bantu Noqekwa.

The medical doctor was gunned down outside his medical practice in an incident which shocked the Gqeberha community.

Dr Noqekwa was described as a people’s person who always cared about the well being of his patients.

His wife is accused of hiring the hitmen who pulled the trigger. According to media reports, cellphone records place her in the vicinity of the murder.

She appeared in court on Tuesday were sheade Hee formal bail application. But the magistrate blatantly struck the bail off.

In his verdict, magistrate Mphuthumi Mpofu said Noqekwa’s death was tantamount to an earthquake as it shook the pillars of the province as a whole. Mphahla-Noqekwa’s co-accussed Siyabulela Gcayiya and Andile Jongi previously abandoned their bids for bail.

They have been in custody since their arrest and they will remain incarcerated until their next court appearance.

Details pertaining to the doctors killing are remniscant to an action movie.

It is alleged that Ethel was having some serious financial problems and the only way out was cashing out on her former husband’s life policy.

The investigating officer, Sergeant Sibulelo Yali, previously testified that Noqekwa had been attending to patients at his Zwide clinic at about 7pm shortly before he was murdered.

The suspects then shot the doctor outside his practice. It is alleged that they even had the time to remove CCTV footage in order to cover their tracks.

They are all being charged with murder.
