According to party spokeswoman Mahlengi Motsiri, Magashule’s expulsion by the ruling party on Monday is the “final sanction” meted out to the former secretary general of South Africa. His dismissal fuels rumors that he would join other expelled Jacob Zuma friends in joining Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters before the crucial elections in 2024.
One of Ramaphosa’s most ferocious opponents in the ANC, Magashule was also close to previous president Zuma, who is regarded as the founder of the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) movement within the ANC.
