After it was revealed that Mabuyane’s supervisor, Professor Edwin Ijeoma, had been enrolling politicians into postgraduate programmes without the necessary qualifications, it was reported three weeks ago that the University was investigating Mabuyane’s admission for a master degree in public administration.

Last Monday, Mabuyane denied knowing that the university was looking into his application to the master’s programme without an honours degree. According to Mabuyane, the University’s Sename committee sent him a letter announcing their decision to remove him from the curriculum in which he had participated for the past four years.

Speaking of which, Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane, faces the possibility of criminal charges if his attempt to prevent the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) from investigating him proves unsuccessful. The SIU is currently conducting a probe into the alleged fraudulent admission and acquisition of qualifications by public officials at the University of Fort Hare (UFH) over an extended period.

Mabuyane’s bid to block the investigation raises concerns about his involvement in the alleged fraudulent activities. The SIU’s investigation aims to uncover the truth behind these allegations and hold accountable those responsible for any wrongdoing.

The alleged fraudulent admission and acquisition of qualifications by public officials have serious implications for the integrity of the educational system and public service. It is essential that thorough investigations are conducted to ensure transparency, fairness, and the preservation of the public’s trust in these institutions.

If the Premier’s attempts to halt the SIU’s probe are unsuccessful, it is likely that criminal charges may be brought against him. This highlights the seriousness of the allegations and the determination of law enforcement agencies to uncover the truth.
