In mid-May, a report by Jeff Wicks alleged that Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane tried to fake his way into a PhD in Public Administration with the assistance of the embittered Professor Edwin Ijeoma, who, it has emerged, allegedly used fake qualifications to gain entry into a PhD programme at the University of Pretoria, and then went on to attain full professorship at University of Fort Hare.

In papers filed at the Bhisho high court last week, Special Investigating Unit’s principal forensic auditor Bongani Tshuku wrote that the unit has evidence showing foul play in the premier’s pursuit of the Master’s degree at the University of Fort Hare (UFH).

Oscar Mabuyane had initially co-operated with the Special Investigating Unit probe, however, he later sought to stop the entire process of investigating him and other implicated persons.

Now with evidence from Special Investigating Unit, the African National Congress Eastern Cape chairperson and Premier Oscar Mabuyane might be found guilty.
