In a significant turn of events, former Eskom executive Matshela Koko has expressed his belief that Fikile Mbalula, the Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC), may soon be compelled to step aside due to an ongoing case pursued against him by the opposition. Koko’s remarks come as AfriForum, a prominent civil rights organization, issued an ultimatum to the Hawks, South Africa’s priority crime investigation unit, demanding an inquiry into the source of funds used by Mbalula during his trip to Dubai. The organization suspects potential money laundering activities.
The case against Fikile Mbalula has lingered for some time, but recent developments indicate that it is gaining momentum. Matshela Koko suggests that former ANC Secretary General, Ace Magashule, is closely monitoring the situation to gauge the ruling party’s response.
“The ANC may soon find itself without a Secretary General if the Freedom Front Plus party has its way. Mbalula may have to step aside. Let’s observe Gerrie Nel’s actions closely. The tenacious prosecutor is determined to pursue this matter. I am convinced that Ace Magashule is keenly watching the developments,” Koko remarked.
The current situation reflects the proverbial saying, “each dog has its day,” as Fikile Mbalula, who had been calling for accountability of comrades like Ace Magashule, now faces the prospect of being held responsible himself.

Interestingly, it is becoming apparent that numerous ANC members who projected themselves as upright individuals have hidden skeletons in their own closets. It seems only a matter of time before their own misdeeds are brought to light.
Meanwhile, another high-ranking ANC member, Oscar Mabuyane, who currently serves as the Premier of the Eastern Cape province, is embroiled in a battle to have an investigation into a degree scandal dismissed. Mabuyane, among others, stands accused of obtaining qualifications through fraudulent means.
