Pule Mabe, the former ANC national spokesperson who had served for many years, told former president Thabo Mbeki that he was not fired from his position.
Mabe decided to step down after new leadership was elected, but in his position, no one was chosen to replace him. He stated that it was time for him to go. Pule Mabe is one of the ANC comrades who had also contested under Zweli Mkhize faction and lost.
It seemed fair enough for him to just leave and let others take his position. Over the weekend, Pule Mabe met with former president Thabo Mbeki and revealed to him why he left the national spokesperson position for the African National Congress.
“President Thabo Mbeki am not fired, a decade is just too long. Told our secretary general Fikile Mbalula it will not be possible. Always great interacting with Thabo Mbeki,” said Pule Mabe.
Social critics applauded for Pule Mabe after leaving on his own even though there were some comrades who were urging him to stay. They said if he had stayed, he would have ended up being disrespected.
There is an an old adage which states that even a good dancer knows when to get off the stage. It does not matter whether his fans are still calling for more, he or she should know when is the right time to leave while people are still happy.
“It is good that you left the spokesperson position, this ANC secretary general, Fikile Mbalula was going to disrespect you like he did to Stan Mathabatha and everyone,” said a social critic.
“Quite honestly not in the the bad way, you are really missed as a spokesperson,” some said. There are however some ANC comrades who are accusing Thabo Mbeki and those close to him of wanting to remove president Cyril Ramaphosa from power by pushing that he be held accountable over his Phala Phala scandal.
