The above is a picture of a South African doctor, Dr Qwabe who has been trending for the past week on social media. Users were amazed by the doctor’s looks which are by societal norms “not the looks of a doctor”.
However to others, Dr Qwabe is a hero who is breaking stereotypes about how certain people should look, the classification of how educated people look and how people can determine the level of respect to give a person judging by their looks, dress code and or behaviour.
Dr Qwabe is an active Tiktok user who has been long on Tiktok posting videos that entertained most users. Some of his videos are doing turns on Twitter as users commend his lifestyle. In some of these videos, the doctor is holding a Bluetooth speaker, playing music and dancing in his work attire.
Despite being good with his practices or work, Dr Qwabe has been reported to HPCSA by people who felt offended upon seeing pictures and videos of the doctor as they believe he is acting inappropriate for a doctor or unprofessional.

Another user also argued that “Dr Qwabe is our brother!!! He represents black excellence regardless of how we look!!! We don’t have to act ,look or sound white to be accepted…He is us and we are him!!!!” Sthembi wrote.
As this goes on, other users have digged deep into Dr Qwabe’s life and found that he is a married man who also shows so much love and care for his partner and kid(s).
Thus far, results from the HPCSA are being awaited as nothing has been said yet about the decision taken.
