Three men suspected to be foreign nationals were arrested today by the Mangaung Metro Tactical Response Team for possessing stolen ARV medicines. This arrest was made after the team received information from Crime Intelligence and found the suspects at a mall in Bloemfontein.
The on-duty officers were left in shock after they searched the men’s silver bakkie and found boxes full of the antiretroviral medications, estimated to be worth R85,000. The medicines were likely stolen from a clinic in Boshof during a recent break-in and would have been sold on the black market.

According to reports, these ARVs are being sold to drug dealers who in turn make use of them in the producing of “Nyaope”. Last month hospitals in Johannesburg refused to give out ARVs to foreign patients after receiving reports that some of them sale their dose to Nyaope dealers.
The three suspects, aged 28, 43 and 52, were taken into custody and will face charges in court soon. This is a clear case of theft and it’s concerning to see stolen medicines being sold on the black market.
