Gcaba Brothers, also known Abafana BakaGcaba in Zulu,is a transactional crime organization based in Umlazi,eThekwini,KwaZulu-Natal.The organisation was founded in the 1970s by Simon Gcaba who started as a business man with successful businesses popping up like Sonke and Mama’s Bakery in Umlazi township.
In 1996 Simon Gcaba who was the leader of the Gcaba Brothers was assassinated, but it didn’t stop the Gcaba Family from rising which made it rise even more and had to spread out throughout the KwaZulu-Natal province. Now the Gcaba Brothers own many known businesses with the taxi business being the most noticable for them.
Their most active activity is murder, illegal business, weapon trafficking and extortion. They are known for not hesitating to retaliate,oGumede organisation are their biggest rivals and they don’t befriend any gangs/gang members from the Cape.Recently the Gcaba Brothers have been trending on Twitter for their heavily armed entrance that they made at Durban Umlazi in fancy cars such as Ferrari, G63 wagon, Bentley and many more.
There were more than 9 security details carrying heavy machine guns running next to their cars, which looked like it was just a display of the so much power and gun strength they have.Probably this was a show off to scare off those who oppose them.
The question is can only taxi owners afford all this display of their lifestyle or there is more the Gcaba Brothers are involved in?Even the richest billionaires in south africa don’t walk around this much security, what is it that the brothers are involved in that requires that much of security.
Allegedly it is said that the brothers own close to a 1000 taxies in different province, double decker busses that travel from province to Province and also a number of some Total gas garages.Recently one gf the brothers just faced an attempted assassination maybe it what led them to go to Durban Umlazi with alot of man power.
