Have you ever heard of the guy? Maybe not but what happened in 2016 when a Maskadi song Van Damme ushered into 2017 has repeated itself.
Congratulations to the winner of the song of year… but who exactly is the winner? Well for some Khuzani took it and for others Makhadzi did.
It all depends on where you from, if you’re from Limpopo then it will be Makhadzi for you as most Limpopo radio stations declared her a winner but as for the rest of Mzansi, they’ve declared Khuzani as the winner.
Have you ever heard of the guy? Maybe not but what happened in 2016 when a Maskadi song Van Damme ushered into 2017 has repeated itself. Khuzani is a Maskandi whose song Ijele was widely welcomed by the Bhinca nation.
Yep, that’s how he took it and obviously Makhadzi doesn’t need an introduction to some. Just in case you don’t know her, don’t worry it ain’t a crime. She’s the lady that gave us the Matorokisi hit song last year. Oh well, this year she gave a few nice songs too.
However, two artists winning song of the year has left South Africa divided with many agreeing that we have not only racism to deal with but also tribalism issue which stares us in the face.
This is tribalism https://t.co/q0UVWsFgMN

Just like anything else in Satafrika… we either put racism or tribalism in it. pic.twitter.com/vafCTwVoZh

Tribalism has killed this "Song of the Year" hype.

The tribalism in this station is too obvious to ignore really…

Its not tribalism you just didn't vote 😂Limpopo people voted Makhadzi for #SongOfTheYear cause they love & relate to her music.
Equally amabhinca voted for Khuzani ijele cause that's their music.— Ke batla MBA (@RebotileHK) January 1, 2021
I am not that stupid to participate in tribalism topics. The only thing I will do is to congratulate the artist who made #SongOfTheYear where I stay. I think I am too matured to embarrass myself on the TL …. https://t.co/3dTbv6nqqT

This thing of radios stations to have their own song of the year promotes tribalism.
