South Africans celebrated the return of alcohol sales on the first day of level 3 – but it seems there are a few regrets.
As level three restrictions kicked in on Monday, South Africans queued at liquor stores and purchased their favourite beverages.
Videos of celebrations were posted on multiple social media platforms and on Tuesday, the hashtag ‘#AlcoholMustFall’ went viral, with videos showing car accidents, intoxicated pedestrians, and people advocating against the sale of alcohol.
In one video, a motorist documented the wreckage on the side of the road, laying the blame on the consumption of alcohol. According to a news report, a suspected drunken driver was arrested after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into that of an off-duty traffic officer in Verulam.
