While his popularity may have risen over the Easter weekend, DJ Ceega wa Meropa has been on the ‘1’s and 2’s’ for seven years now.
Ceega Wa Meropa went from zero to hero to zero in a week. First it was Shimza, Julius Malema and now it’s #CeegaMustFall.
The thing about Twitter fame is it’s fleeting. Ceega Wa Meropa has learned this the hard way after he trended on the social media platform for the wrong reasons.
Back when Mzansi was in love with Ceega Wa Meropa
Ceega Wa Meropa is a local DJ from Johannesburg that gained favour on social media after DJ Shimza publicly scoffed him off for asking to feature on the Lockdown House Party.
Cancel culture came down hard on Shimza for showing no regard for an up-and-coming artist who was once in his shoes. Even EFF leader Julius Malema a lashing for defending Shimza.
All the opportunities he received, thanks to Shimza
On the other hand, the DJ was basking in the glory of being the victim. Piles of opportunity came his way, from a slot in Black Coffee’s Africa Is Not A Jungle live stream to a nationwide Cappello tour confirmed once the lockdown is lifted.
The local DJ’s life changed overnight, from being known by a close-knit circle of fans to being listed on the lineup of Friday’s MTV Base live event.
Was it all a sham?
While all of this was rightfully celebrated, a few sceptics were not too convinced of Ceega Wa Meropa’s ‘have-not’ narrative.
A week into his newfound fame and the walls came crashing for the DJ. Twitter’s elite investigators uncovered the life of Ceega Wa Meropa behind the visage.
As it turns out, he is not all that ‘up-and-coming’ after all. The DJ is actually pretty well known in the live event circuit and has garnered a lucrative life from the turntables.

This is the real Ceega Wa Meropa
By his own admission, Ceega Wa Meropa made a million rand in 2019 from bookings and tours alone. He owns multiple cars and besides his custom merchandise, he owns a number of designer brand clothing.
