Chippa United are making frantic efforts to keep hold of Thabo Rakhale, who has been touted as a possible replacement for Khama Billiat at Kaizer Chiefs.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder’s contract with United is set to expire in June next year and already Chiefs are reported to be sniffing around for his signature.
Rakhale can sign a pre-contract with any team in the next 21 days.
With Khama Billiat prone to injuries and apparently suffering from fatigue of late, Rakhale has reportedly been mentioned as a player who could be a direct replacement for the Zimbabwean international owing to his more frequent absences.
Billiat missed Amakhosi’s last league match against Bloemfontein Celtic in Durban on Saturday.
Rakhale’s manager Mandla Mthembu has confirmed that Chippa have made an approach with the view to discussing the player’s future with the club.
“Chippa United have made contact but at this present moment nothing has been discussed,” Mthembu tells KickOff.com.
“Yes it’s true Thabo’s contract with Chippa United is set to expire in June next year but at the moment we are not talking to anybody.”
Billiat was earlier this season linked with a move back to Mamelodi Sundowns but that move did not materialise.
