Durban University of Technology students have been warned to be on the lookout for a man in a bakkie.
A picture and video that circulated on social media this weekend showed an unknown man inside a bakkie parked outside several DUT residences.
It is alleged that the man tries to lure female students into his bakkie. Students that got close to the van found that the man had exposed his genitals to them.
DUT SRC member, Gugu Hadebe said they have not received any reports as the SRC, but they have seen it on social media like everyone else.
“I don’t know the students that have been directly affected but we have made sure that students are aware of such and also urge them to report if they see that car nearby,” [sic] said Hadebe
Captain Nqobile Zwane said that there were no reports on this matter however a similar case was reported by a female student who was walking along Botanic Gardens near Berea Technical college.
“The man was riding a motorbike. He allegedly stopped next to the female student and allegedly unzipped his pants. He did not physically touch her, as other students called out for help and he ran away,” said Zwane.
Zwane added that a case of sexual harassment has been opened and is being investigated at Berea SAPS
