DA leader Mmusi Maimane says the motion of no-confidence against Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba is frivolous.
Mashaba will face the no-confidence vote this morning.
The ANC wants to remove him, saying the city is in a poor financial state
The party says it has convinced councillors to support its motion.
Mashaba needs the EFF’s support to survive the motion but the party resolved not to vote with the DA in municipalities.
“It’s very clear the fact this is a spurious motion to undermine the work that Herman Mashaba has been doing….it would be an absolute crime for Mashaba to be removed in a world where citizens are satisfied with that. We’re working hard with our coalition partners to say let’s go out … and vote against this motion that has no basis. No crime. No money stolen. I’m uncertain what the ANC is trying to achieve here.”
In 2017, Mashaba survived a motion of no confidence, after the ANC claimed he had failed to adequately provide services to the city’s residents.
