Yesterday afternoon, 2018-03-07, the Flying Squad responded swiftly after being alerted about a white Nissan NP200 bakkie roaming the streets of Kraaifontein. At 16:10 the bakkie was spotted in the parking area of a shopping centre in the area. Upon searching the vehicle the following firearms were seized: one Vector 9mm pistol with magazine and 9 rounds of ammunition; one Astra 9mm pistol with magazine and 17 rounds of ammunition; and one Dash Pod semi-automatic rifle with magazine and 14 rounds of ammunition.
The serial numbers of all three firearms had been removed. It was also discovered that the vehicle had been hijacked in Nyanga during February 2018.
Four suspects, aged 27, 33, 36 and 39, from Lower Crossroads, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha, were arrested and are detained at Kraaifontein SAPS. They are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court, once they have been charged.
